Summer Storytime Series: Military Dogs

Sunday, July 9
11am

This summer, we are bringing in authors AND dogs for an exciting series of storytime events! At each program, participants will get to meet and chat with a children's book author, create a craft in theme with the book, and get up close with real dogs similar to those featured in the story. Pick up your own copy of the book in our shop and get it autographed right then and there!

On July 9th, join author Erin McGill for a reading of her new release, We Also Served: True Stories of Brave Animals in the Military & Other Heroic Tales. Also on site will be RWMD Boby and MA2 Dauntae Forrest from The Military Working Dog Team Support Association Inc.

Erin McGill is from New York, where she spent much of her childhood taking classes at the Bronx Zoo. After realizing that becoming a zoologist required too much science, she decided she would rather draw the animals. She received a BFA in illustration at Pratt Institute, where she discovered her love of patterns, textiles, and collage. In addition to writing and illustrating children’s books, Erin creates greeting cards, toys, and wearable art based on her drawings. Erin loves balloons, swimming, reading, cacti, gardening, watching dogs, feeding pigeons, cooking, and doodling in her sketchbook.

The Military Working Dog Team Support Association, Inc. is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to supporting military working dog (MWD) teams serving with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force. MWDTSA operates with no paid staff. Historically, over 97% of all donated funds have gone directly to execute our missions. MWDTSA sends quarterly care packages to MWD teams currently deployed in harm's way. We also boost morale with stateside kennel visits, honor retired MWDs for K9 Veterans Day, and educate the public about the important roles of our MWD teams.

Visitors of all ages will enjoy this event. Whether you are excited to hear the story or just want to visit with the dogs. This event is FREE for Members and included with General Admission.
