Selections from the Archives: Historical References to Dog Collars and Harnesses

July 07, 2023 - September 04, 2023

Now on view in the third floor galleries! Peruse advertisements, advice columns, and photographs depicting dog collars, leashes, and harnesses over the decades. AKC Archivist Jaimie Fritz explores records of these objects through the lens of Identity & Restraint: Art of the Dog Collar as preserved in the American Kennel Club’s archival collection. Selections include advertising magazines from Purina and Ken-L foods, The Dog Book by John Rendel, and postcard books from the Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery and the Leeds Castle Foundation showing historical collars from private collections modeled on live dogs in the 1990’s.

Out of courtesy to our neighbors, only service dogs and invited demonstration dogs are allowed in the museum.
